The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form.

Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture.

Last Chance Bluegrass Band:
These guys have been serving as the house band for the close out of each Opry season for some time. This is very traditional Bluegrass music, and people who love that music form always love to hear the Last Chance band. You may hear a traditional gospel bluegrass set this time around.

OK Crawdad:
The leader of this group, Nickybob Shoulders originally hails from Arkansas. He is another member of the New Orleans Busking community. OK Crawdad is a Country music group, and we are looking forward to what they bring. Our audience is never disappointed by the buskers. They bring a youthful vibrancy to the New Orleans musical community. While many people characterize the New Orleans traditional music scene as focusing on Jazz, Blues and R&B, it may surprise some that there is a very vibrant Country music scene currently going on. Good music is good music, whatever the genre.

Old Man River Band:
Sherman is well-known by just about everyone in the New Orleans musical community. He owns Bernard Productions, an entertainment production business, but he likes to come from behind the scenes to get behind the mic and his keyboard. The group he will bring performs as the feature band on the Creole Queen riverboat in New Orleans. He will bring some of that to us, and we are glad to see Sherman back here.

Spider Murphy and the
Fatback Vipers:

Lawrence Batley, aka Spider Murphy is a very accomplished music who has been performing for many years all over the country. He has since settled in New Orleans and has formed up with other musicians who are performing regularly in the French Quarter. What this group will be bringing to our stage is the Blues. We are happy to welcome Spider back to our stage.
