MEDIA - AO2023-05The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form. Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture. |

Three Rivers Cooperative: Christopher Talley is a member of the Opry Board of Directors and heads up this band. This pure Bluegrass performed as well as can be heard anywhere. Chis has a knack of gathering superior musicians and always sets the bar for the other acts that follow. Chris also heads up the Northshore Traditional Music Society tha is involved in several efforts at preserving old-style music. |
Jonathan Freilich Blues: Jonathan is a newcomer to the Opry. We have heard great things about his skill as a Blues musician. He will bring a band to the Opry to perform Blues and we are very much looking forward to hearing what his group will bring to our stage. |
Poisson Rouge: For those who have no knowledge of Cajun French, Poisson Rouge means Redfish. The logical conclusion is that this is a Cajun Band. This is a group of young musicians who perform Cajun music in the Cajun French language, but also have written some originals in the traditional style but with a “twist’ that brings some originality into our treasured Cajun music genre. We are happy to welcome them on board. |
Secret Six Jazz Band: This is a relatively new band. Like many other Traditional New Orleans Jazz bands, it is comprised of musicians who have and are performing with various other jazz groups. They are performing at various locations in New Orleans, and they will be sure to bring that great unique New Orleans “trad jazz” sound that is always well received by our audience. This will be a great way to conclude our season. |
