MEDIA - AO2022-09The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form. Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture. |
Steve Anderson Group: Steve is a local talent, and he has developed a healthy fan base among the Opry audience members. He is self-taught and can deliver those great old-time county classics as well as anyone. He is joined on vocals by Jan Biggs and a great backup group. This is a regular house band and Steve sets a very high bar for the acts that follow. |
Spider Murphy and the Boudin Zombies: Only a band from Louisiana could have that name, and only a blues musician could be named Spider Murphy. Spider is a very accomplished and versatile musician who has performed all over the U.S., but has settled in the greatest musical city anywhere, New Orleans. Spider is a friend of the Opry, having performed here previously and on the porch. He is a strong bluesman and an audience pleaser. |
The Tanglers: This is a New Orleans-based Bluegrass band. Bluegrass is a popular musical genre with roots in olde-time Country music. The Tanglers are a very strong Bluegrass band and will supply the high-energy fast-paced style of music to the opry stage. |
The Jump Hounds: I learned about this band when I met the trumpet player and vocalist, Adam Arredondo, at the last Abita Springs Busker Festival. He was performing with another group, and, during the sound check, he was asked to mic check, he sang a Louis Prima song in perfect Italian. The decision was made to book his other group, the Jump Hounds that feature Louis Prima and other vintage New Orleans greats like Fats Domino and others from the 40’s 50’s and 60’s. They present pure vintage New Orleans Rhythm and Blues. We are excited about this group coming to our stage. |
