MEDIA - AO2019-11
The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form.
Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture. |

Last Chance Bluegrass Band:
If you love Bluegrass, you will love these guys, and they love what they do. That comes through in their performances. They have a lot of personality and show some versatility in what they do. At the show last May, they did a Gospel set in Bluegrass style and we could look around the hall and see many of our fans singing those old standards along with the band. We love that communication between the musicians and the audience, and these guys are fine communicators. |
|
The Lucky Dogs:
They have been here before, and what they do is nothing less than pure fun and entertainment. This group can get the audience smiling, singing, and clapping along. They are pure New Orleans Rhythm and Blues. If you are fans of New Orleans greats like Fats Domino, Ernie K-Doe, Clarence “Frogman Henry,” Chris Kenner, and others of that ilk and Kin, this is the group you don’t want to miss.

Zac Maras:
This a group of truly gifted young musicians who are returning having been here several years ago. They perform what could be classified as Country music, but in a style that lets other influences bleed in to what they are doing. This music can be best described as “Americana.” It is played in the traditional style and is extremely enjoyable to hear. They were very well received last time they were here, and will be this time also. |
|
Ben Redwine:
Ben might be one of the most gifted clarinet performers in this area, and that is saying a mouthful. Ben is one of the people who can be described as a virtuoso. He is a highly experienced and well-traveled musician He performs just about any style of music that can pe played on the clarinet. For this show, he will bring other musicians besides himself who perform traditional New Orleans Jazz music. “Trad Jazz” is very popular with our audience. We are positive that he will put together a stellar group and will will provide a perfect conclusion to a great season. |
