MEDIA - AO2018-05
The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form.
Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture. |

The Last Chance Bluegrass Band:
If you like straight out hard driving energetic Bluegrass, you will like the Last Chance Band. They have been one of our house bands for several years. They provide a great presence on the stage coupling their musical and individual personalities. Bluegrass has always been a mainstay of the opry and these guys do a fine job of continuing that tradition.

Darrell, Darrel, Daryl, and my Other Cousin Darryl:
They have been performing locally for some time. This band has been regulars at the Old Time Feed Store music series held at Marsolan’s Feed Store in Covington. They have also performed at other local venues. They present a nice blend of music that can best be described as “Americana,” and we welcome them to the Opry.

Sheryl Cormier:
This is an all-female Cajun Band from the Lafayette area. That is the area in Louisiana where Cajun music was originated, and the groups that come from that area are the best. The fiddle player featured in this band is Gina Forsyth. Gina has performed with many different groups at the Opry and, besides our house bands, has been here more than any other musician. She is one of the most well-known and competent fiddle players in Louisiana. We are looking forward to hearing this group. |

Miss Sophie Lee:
Sophie has been a mainstay in the club scene for some time. She performs traditional New Orleans Jazz and can be seen regularly on Frenchmen Street. In conversations with other musicians about her, when informed she will be on our stage, they always respond with, “I love her. She is great!” This will be a fine close out for the spring season of the Abita Springs Opry.
