MEDIA - AO2015-03
The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form.
Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture. |

The Steve Anderson Group
One of our regular house bands. They always start the show and set the bar for the musicians who follow. Steve is a local guy who has a rich voice that is made for traditional Country music. He is a crowd favorite, and one of the most likeable guys you will ever meet.

The Longtime Goners
This is another group of musicians who are part of those who have migrated into New Orleans following Katrina and have decided to make the Big Easy their home and are performing traditional musical styles. This group will perform some great originals with a style that has a country twang with some New Orleans spice mixed in. We have been trying to book this group for some time and are very happy that they will finally get on our stage. |
|
The Lucky Dogs
This dynamic duo can produce a complete sound with a keyboard, a set of drums, and two voices. They know every song that made us dance and sing during the heyday of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues. It is fun to watch the audience reaction to these guys. Many of them are singing along with the familiar lyrics, and one can see smiles on their faces as they voice the lyrics. The Lucky Dogs are one of the greatest audience pleasers ever to appear on our stage.

Dwayne Doopsie
The name of this group should provide more than a hint as to what they will be bringing to the Opry stage. This is Dwayne’s second appearance here. He is one of the hardest working musicians around. He is a member of the famous Doopsie family of Zydeco musicians. Zydeco is a purely Louisiana music form, and it gets inside of the listeners with its hard-driving soulful blues sound with some Cajun influence. Dwayne delivers all of that as well as anyone else in Louisiana.
